We thought that we would be lucky again as the weather had been unsettled up to the start of the performance. As the performance started the sun shone, but as the story developed the clouds darkened and the rapturous applause was replaced by thunder and lightening. Despite being surrounded by the black clouds we optimists believed it would pass us by - how wrong we were! The heavens opened, the performance paused for a few minutes to allow us to put on waterproofs and put up umbrellas. Then the gallant performers continued, they made light of the conditions and even incorporated it in the dialogue. I don't think I've ever laughed so much in the pouring rain. Fortunately it did not last that long. The interval gave us the opportunity to dry out. Hot soup would have been more appreciated than chilled champagne, but the odd glass or two warmed the cockles and put us in the mood for the second act which was even better than the first. All in all, an exciting and enjoyable evening..
