On 21st December 2009 the Howardian Hills AONB Junior Ranger Club enjoyed a very snowy day out at The Arboretum, Kew at Castle Howard.
Whilst numbers were much reduced due to the condition of the roads those who made it certainly had a great time. Outside they looked for animal and bird tracks in the snow and visited the bird hide. Back indoors in the warm they made animals print casts using plaster of paris and bird cake to take home to help the birds in their gardens. They also made (nearly traditional) Yule Logs from local logs, natural materials and plenty of glittery pipe-cleaners and snow spray.
Due to the reduced numbers we'll be having a re-run in February half term for those children who were booked onto the December session. Also, keep you eyes on the AONB website (www.howardianhills.org.uk) to find out about future sessions. |
