Dew Pond

This pond probably has its origins as a stock-watering pond, though it may not be a historic 'dew pond' (it does not have the symmetrical circular shape, although this could be a result of reprofiling in the past). It has been re-excavated within the past few years and almost dried out during late summer. The pond supports broad-leaved pondweed and lesser pondweed (Potamogeton pusillus), with marginal vegetation of branched bur-reed, flote-grass (Glycena fluitans), marsh foxtail (Alopecurus geniculatus), common spike-rush, soft rush and marsh bedstraw.
Patches of damp grassland near the Dew Pond, cut late in the summer, support common spotted orchid, creeping buttercup (Ranunculus repens), lady's smock, meadow vetchling, soft rush, Yorkshire fog (Holcus lanatus) and glaucous sedge (Carex flacca).
