Education Programme - Wormery

Thanks to a kind donation from Oxforde Glass and the construction skills of arboretum volunteer George Pope, the Education programme has a large glass wormery that schools can borrow and fill up themselves with a variety of rocks, soils, and sand as well as the all important garden worms! Observation of the worms over a few weeks demonstrates how they mix and aerate the soil by tunnelling through the layers.

The most recent school to borrow our wormey was St Martin’s School at Fangfoss, who sent us some lovely pictures of their project. The class teacher, Miss Ellis, has kindly supplied us with her lesson plans and Powerpoint Presentation for the activity.
