Tree Forecast - July 2010

 

In July leaves will be at their most luxuriant.
Seed production will already be underway.
Southern hemisphere plants such as the eucalyptus should produce masses of their unusual flowers.

 
 

Gleditsia aquatica “Water locust”
Vicious spines lurk under the attractive leaves of this small tree from SE USA

 

Pterocarya x rehderana
This spreading wing nut carries long catkins which produce the fruits from July onwards..

     
 

Pyrus cossonii.
Many pears will be starting to produce their fruits. This species grows wild in Algeria.

 

Populus lasiocarpa
Three specimens of this poplar will produce large amounts of cotton wool like seeds during this month

     
 

Eucalyptus neglecta
This rare gum tree flowers and surprisingly produces viable seed in the arboretum

 

Eucalyptus gregsoniana
This splendid tree from New South Wales should be smothered in flower for two weeks during July
