BOOKABLE WORKSHOPS:
Bushcraft Skills: An introduction to bushcraft & firelighting skills from Carlshead Ltd, using bow drills, flint & steel & modern firesteels. Find out about the fire triangle & how to stay safe.
Mammal Mania: The Yorkshire Mammal Group returns with an amazing collection of animal skulls, bones, nests & footprints. Find out what the owl had for dinner, & about the important role mammals play in our ecosystem.
Minibeast Hunting: Look under the trees for some of the amazing creatures that live there. OPAL invertebrate experts will be on hand to help you identify the things you find.
Pond Dipping: What lies beneath? Come & learn how to find & identify the creatures living in the arboretum lake. How do they move? What do they munch? Are you fast enough to catch them?
Shelter Building: Does exactly what it says on the tin! Can you & your family build a shelter big enough to fit you all in & keep you safe & dry?
The Wonderful World of Worms: Ever wondered what goes on beneath your feet? Which of the UK’s 27 species of worm will you find? Go worm-charming with the OPAL team.

Arboretum Art: Twigtastic crafts in the forest! Let your imagination run wild & see what wonderful works of art you can create using the natural materials from our woodland.
Tree Mobiles: What lives up there in our many trees? Come & find out about the amazing variety of creatures that thrive in our woodland. Make your own tree mobile to take home with you.
Orienteering: Try to follow our brand new trail. Can you find all the markers or will you get lost! Expert orienteers will be on hand to give you some tips. Who in your family will complete the course first? Loser buys the ice creams!
Mollusc Madness: Bring along your slugs & snails to be identified & enter their slimy world! How do they move? What is a snail trail for? What’s a snail shell made from? What’s the difference between a slug & a snail? Find out at Mollusc Madness!
Rotting with the Rotters: Find out all you need to know about composting your rubbish at home with the North Yorkshire Rotters. Whether you’re a novice or an expert you’ll learn something new. You can even try your hand at worm composting and make your own mini wormery to take home.
Blindfold Challenge: Follow the tactile trail, feel your way through the woods. With only a friend to guide you, will you succeed & identify all the mystery objects?
